Western New Mexico University has named Quinn Tedder its new women's basketball coach, Scott Woodard, Athletic Director, announced today. Tedder replaces Brent Hanson, who resigned in February after three years in the driver's seat. Tedder comes to WNMU after one year as an assistant women's basketball coach at East Texas Baptist University (ETBU).

While at ETBU, Tedder was successful in implementing many new community engagement programs including a pen pal program between "at risk" elementary students in Marshall ISD and the ETBU women's basketball program. Tedder started a mentor program for ETBU women's basketball for job shadowing and additional support for student-athletes. She also was the recruiting coordinator and served as the alumni and community relations director for women's basketball.

Tedder, a former member of two conference championship teams at Texas Christian University (TCU), went to ETBU from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth, where she was a special education teacher and head girl's basketball coach from 2005 to 2007. She received a B.S.E. in Special Education from TCU in 2003 and later earned a M.E. in Elementary Education from TCU.

As head coach at Arlington Heights, Tedder's team won bi-district and an area championship in 2006 to give the program its first playoff wins in ten years. That season, Arlington Heights also tied for the most successful season in school history.

Tedder entered the coaching field in August of 2003, serving as junior varsity girl's basketball coach at North Crowley High School. She left North Crowley a year later to become junior varsity volleyball and girls basketball varsity assistant at Colleyville Heritage High School in Grapevine, in August 2004.

A native of Lindale, Tedder graduated from Lindale High School before moving on to TCU, where she played on the Lady Frogs' 2001 Western Athletic Conference championship team. A year later, Tedder was part of the Lady Frogs' first Conference USA championship.

At Lindale, Tedder was a four-time first-team All-District selection as well as a two-time All-District selection in volleyball. She also earned All-East Texas honors in both sports as well.

In 1995, Tedder played on Lindale's state semifinalist team, and in 1997 she was named honorable mention All-America by Street and Smith's magazine. She has also been a member of the 1997 Junior Olympic national championship team, a member of the 1998 18-under AAU national championship team, and a member of the 1998 Prep-No-More BCI national championship team.

At TCU, Tedder was a member of the Dean's Honor List from 1999-2002 and also won the TCU Women's Basketball Academic Award in 2000, 2001, and 2002.  Following her career at TCU, she served on the TCU Letterman's Board of Directors for three years.

"This is a wonderful opportunity," says Tedder. "The possibilities of this program being in contention for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship and competitive nationally is a priority of this coaching staff and team. We look forward to bringing back the excitement of Lady Mustang Basketball to Silver City."

"We are excited to have Quinn on board," says Woodard. "We feel she will make a great impact on the women's basketball program and the community. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the court and the team. She is a great fit for us."

Tedder will be on the WNMU campus beginning May 5.
