Colorado School of Mines 

Founded in 1874, Colorado School of Mines is a single-purpose university of engineering and applied science with a special focus on earth's resources.

CSM students are involved with today's most advanced areas of science, economics and engineering. Students specialize in computing, energy development & conservation, and environmental sciences. At CSM, energy, economics, and engineering have been our business for 135 years.

Mines offers a wide array of undergraduate programs, a list which includes chemical engineering, chemistry, economics, engineering (civil, electrical, geological, metallurgical & material, mechanical, mining, petroleum), geophysics, mathematics (computer science specialty) and physics. Graduate programs in these areas, as well as engineering systems, environmental sciences and engineering, geology, geophysics and geochemistry, are offered.

Degrees available at Mines include the bachelor of science, the professional degree, master of engineering, master of science and the doctor of philosophy.

The CSM faculty is composed of more than 200 men and women from all over the world. Faculty, not graduate students, teach undergraduate classes and the student/faculty ratio is 14/1.

Faculty members are expected to be active in research, publishing, and professional activities in addition to their teaching. Over 20 million dollars of research is conducted each year, and the faculty provide the opportunity for exceptional undergraduate students to be involved in research projects.

CSM's high standards and demanding course work are offset by the various student activities and organizations. Seven fraternities, two sororities and a strong residence hall system sponsor a variety of social activities throughout the year. Professional societies in each academic department also offer social and academic opportunities, and minority student organizations enrich the campus and add diversity.
