COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The RMAC regular season wrapped up over the weekend, with CSU-Pueblo clinching the outright RMAC title with a 33-7 road win over New Mexico Highlands. The win capped off a perfect 9-0 season in the RMAC for the ThunderWolves.
All five road teams won on Saturday. In RMAC play, road teams finished the season 23-21.
There were plenty of potent ground attacks in the RMAC this season, with eight individuals going over the 1,000-yard mark for the year. Five teams rank within the top 50 nationally in rushing offense, led by CSU-Pueblo’s 314.9 yards per game on the ground (5th nationally).
Colorado Mines’ Justin Dvorak finished the regular season second in the country in passing touchdowns (38) and passing yards (3,693).
The RMAC boasts three of the top five all-purpose leaders in the country. Western State’s Austin Ekeler is second with 203.9 all-purpose yards per game, while Western New Mexico’s Marques Rodgers is fourth (185.82) and CSU-Pueblo’s Cameron McDondle is fifth (183.64).
RMAC Football Offensive Player of the Week
Allen Thigpen - Fort Lewis, QB
Dayton, Ohio
Thigpen accounted for 4 of the Skyhawks 7 TD’s Saturday in a 47-34 win at Chadron State, 3 of which came in the 4th quarter when FLC scored 27 points in a 4th quarter comeback win. In the 3Q, he completed a 44-yard pass to bring the Skyhawks within 2 points, 22-20. He scampered from 31 yards out to give FLC their first lead of the game in the 4th quarter, 26-22. He followed that with a 30-TD pass. Thigpen finished the game recovering an onside kick and running it back 45 yards for the win, 47-34. He finished the game completing 9 of 12 passes for 2 TD’s and 200 yards. He led the team in rushing yards with 157 on 17 carries and a TD (9.2 yards/carry). He also punted 4 times for 40.8 yards (1 I-20, long of 52, TB).
RMAC Football Defensive Player of the Week
Alfonso Wilson - Western New Mexico, DB
San Diego, Calif.
Wilson collected his second interception that he returned for a TD this year when he picked off BHSU’s Ryan Hommel and returned it 33 yards for the score in WNMU’s win. In addition to the INT return he also led the team in tackles with seven, three solo and had a pass breakup.
RMAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Josh McIntire - Western New Mexico, K
El Cajon, Calif.
McIntire had a terrific day on special teams for the Mustangs in the win over BHSU. He connected on a career-best 50 yard field goal in his only attempt of the game. On kickoffs he averaged 64 yards per attempt as of the 10 he kicked off, nine went for touchbacks. He made all eight extra points and in the punting game he drilled three punts for an average of 44.7, with a long of 58 and two landing inside the 20.
