2016 RMAC Cross Country All-Academic Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Western's Georgia Porter and Chadron State's Alejandro Garcia are named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Cross Country Academic Runners of the Year announced on Tuesday.
The award winners, along with the other First-Team All-Academic members, were voted on by the conference's sports information directors. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must carry a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) and must have been an active student at the institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters (RMAC Manual 3.4.2).
Student-athletes that meet those requirements, but were not voted First-Team, automatically qualify for Honor Roll.
Porter and Garcia were recently named RMAC Summit Award winners, an award given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA competing at the RMAC Championship site.
Porter has a 4.0 GPA majoring in Recreation & Outdoor Education. She finished eighth at the NCAA National Championships, placing higher than any other RMAC competitor. The senior standout also led the Mountaineers to a third-place team finish at nationals. She finished second at the RMAC Championships and was named First Team All-RMAC. Other accolades this season include being named Preseason Runner of the Year, RMAC Runner of the Week (9/7, 9/21, 10/12), and USTFCCCA All-American.
Garcia has a 4.0 GPA, majoring in Health & Physical Education. He finished top ten in 4-of-5 cross country meets this season. Garcia finished 11h at the RMAC Championships and 65
th at the NCAA DII National Championships.
