COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its Women’s Basketball major awards and All-RMAC teams on Tuesday.

UCCS forward Brittany Hernandez swept the Defensive Player of the Year and Player of the Year honors. The Colorado Springs, Colo. native became just the third women’s basketball player to sweep the two awards in league history. The last time came when Colorado Christian’s Christina Whitelaw accomplished the feat in 2012.

CSU-Pueblo’s Molly Rohrer claimed Freshman of the Year honors, while Colorado Mines head coach Brittany Simpson was named Coach of the Year.

All major awards and All-RMAC First and Second Teams were voted on by the league's 16 head coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players. All players who received at least one First Team vote or two Second Team votes earned Honorable Mention.

Hernandez, the RMAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, also landed on the All-RMAC First Team for a second consecutive season. The junior leads the league in scoring, pouring in 21.1 points per game while also ranking fourth in the conference in rebounds per game (7.8).

On the defensive side of the floor, Hernandez finished second in the RMAC in steals per game (2.3) and third in blocks per game (2.0). She pulled down 5.3 defensive rebounds per contest.

Rohrer, a freshman from Greenwood Village, Colo., led all RMAC freshmen in scoring, averaging 12.5 points per game – a number good enough for 12th in the conference. The center was a force on defense, leading the league with 2.2 blocks per game while also averaging 4.7 rebounds per contest. Her work also landed her on the All-RMAC First Team.

Simpson, in her fourth year at the helm of the Colorado Mines program, accomplished plenty this season, including guiding the Orediggers to their first RMAC Women’s Basketball regular-season title in school history. This season the Orediggers are 21-5 overall and 19-3 in the RMAC.
