MBB: Four RMAC players added to the 2016 DII Bulletin All-American list

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –  Four RMAC men’s basketball players earned 2016 Division II Bulletin All-American honors after the awards were announced Monday.
 
Senior Ryan Stephan from Colorado Mesa was named First Team DIIB All-American, adding to his already impressive collection of postseason honors.
 
The Lakewood, Colo. native has already been named 2015-16 RMAC Player of the Year, 2016 D2CCA South Central Regional Player of the Year, 2016 D2CAA National Player of the Year, and was named to the 2016 NABC DII All-American Team.
 
The 6-foot-10-inch center finished his career second in Colorado Mesa history with 2,073 points – a number good enough to place eighth on the RMAC’s all-time scoring list.
 
Stephan recently participated in the 2016 Reese’s NABC DII All-Star Game in Frisco, Texas where he scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds for the West Team.
 
Regis’ Jarrett Brodbeck was named to the 2016 DII Bulletin All-Freshman Team. Brodbeck led the Rangers in scoring this season with 16.5 points per game. The Yorba Linda, Calif. native was also named RMAC Freshman of the Year and named to the All-RMAC second team this season.
 
Two student-athletes also grabbed honorable mention honors, Alex Welsh (UCCS) and Shakir Smith (Adams State).
 
Welsh participated in the Reese’s DII All-Star Game on Friday where he scored 10 points with four rebounds and three assists for the West Team.
 
The senior finished his career as the UCCS rebounding and scoring leader. He was a named 2015-16 D2CCA All-Region Second Team, NABC All-District Second Team, and is a two-time All-RMAC First Team member.
 
Shakir Smith led Adams State in over 20 statistical categories this season. He finished with a career-high 39 points and registered a total of five 30-plus point games. Smith tallied 989 career points for the Grizzlies and was named All-RMAC First Team this season.
