Softball All-RMAC teams and major awards announced

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s major softball awards and All-RMAC teams were announced on Tuesday.
Headlining the group was RMAC regular-season champion Colorado Mesa, who nabbed three major awards.
Makayla Kovac was named RMAC Offensive Player of the Year, while Brooke Hodgson collected Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors. Head coach Ben Garcia was tabbed Coach of the Year.
MSU Denver’s Colissa Bakovich was named the other Co-Defensive Player of the Year, while Chadron State’s Tayler Hall earned Pitcher of the Year. Colorado Christian’s Charlotte Romero was tabbed Freshman of the Year.
The major awards, along with the All-RMAC First and Second Teams are voted on by the league’s head coaches. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players.
Kovac, the RMAC Player of the Year each of the last two seasons, caps off her RMAC career with the inaugural Offensive Player of the Year honor. The senior leads the conference in many offensive categories, including home runs (15), doubles (19), slugging percentage (.936), runs batted in (57) and runs scored (59).
Bakovich owns a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. The junior notched 84 putouts and three assists from her outfield spot. She also flashed a strong bat, hitting .338 with 39 runs scored.
Hodgson tallied a .964 fielding percentage on the year, recording 59 putouts and 21 assists while making just three errors. At the plate, she hit .399 and drove in 50 runs.
Hall twirled a very impressive campaign for the Eagles. She finished as the RMAC’s leader in ERA (2.36) and opponent batting average (.232). She struck out 126 batters on the year and tallied an impressive 15-2 record.
Romero led the conference with a .479 batting average. She wrapped up her freshman season with 80 hits and 39 RBI. She also scored 35 runs and slugged .629 on the year. She is Colorado Christian’s first Freshman of the Year.
Garcia earned his first RMAC Coach of the Year honor after leading his Mavericks to a 35-3 RMAC mark. They finished the regular season 36-9 overall.
