CSU-Pueblo Atop The 2017 #RMACfb Preseason Coaches Poll
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – CSU-Pueblo sits atop the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Football Preseason Coaches Poll for the fifth consecutive year.
The ThunderWolves have been a preseason favorite since 2013. In a four-year span, the Pack has won three RMAC Championship titles (2013, 2014, 2016) and an NCAA Division II National Championship title (2014). CSU-Pueblo garnered 93 points and four first-place votes in this year’s coaches poll after finishing the 2016 season 8-2 in the RMAC and 8-3 overall. They will open the 2017 campaign on Thursday, August 31 against Colorado School of Mines in Pueblo, Colorado.
Colorado Mesa finished in second with only one point separating the Mavs from the Pack. The Mavericks were RMAC Co-Champions in 2016, along with CSU-Pueblo and Colorado School of Mines. Colorado Mesa tallied 92 points and four first-place votes in the coaches poll. Last season the Mavericks qualified for NCAA Playoffs with an 8-2 RMAC record and finished their season 9-2. The Mavs will host Western on August 31 for their first conference game of 2017.
Colorado School of Mines was voted third in the preseason rankings with 82 points and garnering the final three first-place votes. The Orediggers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Playoffs after defeating Southwest Baptist 63-35, but would end their season to Ferris State (38-17). The Oredigger were 8-2 in the RMAC and 10-3 overall.
Dixie State finished fourth in the coaches poll with 69 points. Black Hills State ranked fifth with 62 points and South Dakota Mines enters the season ranked sixth (51 points).
Western (43), Chadron State (41), Fort Lewis (37), Adams State (25) and New Mexico Highlands (10) round-out the preseason coaches poll.
