Colorado Christian Wins 2008-09 RMAC Sportsmanship Cup
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- July 1, 2009 -- Colorado Christian won the third annual Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Cup. This is the second straight year the Cougars have won the award. University of Nebraska at Kearney won the inaugural Sportsmanship Cup in 2006-07.
The Sportsmanship Cup underwent several revisions this past year. The voting process went to an on-line system that ranked four game environment factors: players, fans, staff, and coaches. Each category received one ranking from poor to excellent. A head coach from each sport and a Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) member from each school voted per sport on all 21 RMAC sponsored sports.
Colorado Christian received an average overall score of 4.378. Also ranking in the top five for the Sportsmanship Cup were Nebraska-Kearney (4.167), Regis (4.079), Western State (4.047) and Chadron State (3.999).
The Cougars highest point average in the game environment voting came in the coaches category where they received an average of 4.51 points. The players category was the second highest with a 4.38 rating, followed by staff (4.33) and fans (4.28). In three of the four above-mentioned categories, the Cougars were ranked the highest among the 14 league members.
The Cougars will be recognized and receive their RMAC Sportsmanship Cup on Saturday, July 11 at the RMAC Centennial Celebration.
