Five RMAC Schools Rank in Top 50
in
Volleyball Attendance
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- May 15, 2008 -- Five
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schools were ranked in the top
50 of home volleyball attendance in 2007, which was announced
Wednesday by the NCAA.
Nebraska-Kearney led all schools with a home average attendance
of 1,195. The Lopers, who played 22 home matches last year,
were one match win away from appearing in the NCAA Elite 8
Tournament. The Lopers finished last season with a 33-5
overall record and they tied with Fort Lewis College as the league
champion.
Adams State College ranked 29th overall in the nation, averaging
366 fans in their 13 home matches. The Grizzlies, who made it
to the semifinal round of the RMAC Touranament, completed their
season seventh in the leauge with a 10-9 mark (15-14 overall).
UC-Colorado Springs, which made their first appearance last
season in the NCAA Tournament, ranked 40th in the country in home
attendance with an average crowd of 333 fans. The Mountain
Lions lost to Nebraska-Kearney in the RMAC championship match
before falling to Metro State in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA
regional tournament (16-3, 20-12).
Listed 46th in the nation in home volleyball attendance was Mesa
State College (291 average). The Mavericks (11-8, 15-14)
also made RMAC and NCAA tournament appearances. Their season
ended with a loss to top ranked Nebraska-Kearney in the South
Central Tournament.
Rounding out the five RMAC schools ranked in the top 50 is
Western State College. The Mountaineers played 10 home
matches and averaged 284 fans to rank 49th in the nation. WSC
tied for 10th place in the league with a 6-13 record (9-18
overall).
As a conference, the RMAC ranked fourth in the country with an
average home attendance of 333. Ahead of the RMAC in league
averages is the North Central Conference (416 average), the
Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (363 average), and
the Great Northwest Conference (337).
