Women's soccer coach Morris resigns from post

by Anthony Sandstrom, CSU-Pueblo Sports Information Director

PUEBLO, Colo. (May 4, 2009) - Dave Morris, CSU-Pueblo's women's soccer coach, has resigned from his position effective immediately.  Morris, a native of the Washington, D.C. metro area, resigned for personal reasons.

"This was a difficult and frustrating decision to have to make," Morris said.  "but this is a situation where I came back from a recent trip to DC and realized that it if you're going to have to leave, this is the time to do it.  I am disappointed that I won't be finishing the journey with some of the great people we have here, but we're in position to contend nationally, which is a great place to start.  We've had terrific support from our administration and the community, and I think that's been reflected in the development of our program.  It's sad for me to leave, but I'm excited to have helped move things forward here and it's exciting to have terrific people in place to build on that success."

In Morris' two-year tenure as CSU-Pueblo's head women's soccer coach, he led the team to its highest win total in school history, going 14-6-1 in 2007 and losing in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship match.  In 2008, he coached the team to a berth in the RMAC Tournament, and finished with a winning record of 9-8-2.  In total, Morris posted a 23-14-3 mark at CSU-Pueblo.  He is listed on the NCAA website among college soccer's winningest soccer coaches with a career record of 92-61-16.  Dave was only the second women's soccer coach in school history, following current men's soccer coach, Roy Stanley, who helmed the program from 1994-2006.

"Dave laid a good foundation for the women's soccer program, and we're appreciative of the hard work he put in as the women's soccer coach," Folda said.  "We wish him the best of luck in the future."

A search for Morris' replacement is planned and should be announced during the summer months.
