Adams State, Wrestling, 1966-1968


Carollo is a three-time National Champion for Adams State wrestling. In 1968, Carollo won the NAIA Championship title and the NCAA Division I national title at 191-pounds (University Division), finishing the season 4-0. He was a member of Adams State’s first ever National Championship wrestling team that same year. During 1967, he was the NAIA Champion and Division I National Runner Up in the heavyweight division. He wrestled future Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Curley Culp of Arizona State in finals. The match was carried on ABC with Keith Jackson serving as the play-by-play broadcaster. The 265-pound Culp, pinned the 205 pound Carollo in 51-seconds. Since then, Carollo was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1977 and the Adams State Hall of Fame in 2002. Adams State’s 1968 Wrestling Team, which included Carollo, was inducted into the RMAC Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Adams State Hall of Fame in 2009.
