Adams State historically houses successful cross country and track and field programs, but Aaron Braun took that success to the next level with a dominant career for the Grizzlies in each program. Throughout his time in ASU’s incredible running programs, he earned individual and team national titles in addition to a pair of second-place finishes at consecutive NCAA Division II Cross Country championships, to name a few.

Braun wasted no time leaving a mark in Alamosa, earning individual runner-up finishes at the cross country national championships in 2007 and 2008, the latter of which came on the heels of an individual title at the RMAC Men’s Cross Country Championship.

However, it was the 2009 track and field seasons that propelled Braun to new heights when he claimed the RMAC’s individual title in the mile event in addition to helping his team to the conference crown in the distance medley event. That same season, he qualified for the NCAA DII Indoor Championships and grabbed a national title in the mile race. The following season, he qualified once again for the NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field National Championships and took gold once again in the mile.

Following his junior seasons in 2009, Braun tacked on U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Track Athlete of the Year honors for both his indoor and outdoor campaigns. Throughout the remainder of his career, he would go on to earn runner-up performances at various NCAA track and field national championships and a grand total of 15 All-America accolades.

By the time Braun’s running career was complete at Adams State, he also held a trio of school records in the indoor 3,000m and 5,000m events in addition to the outdoor 5,000m race. Further, he was a key component of one Adams State indoor track and field national championship as well as two team national titles for the Grizzlies’ men’s cross country programs.

For all his standout performances with the Grizzlies’ running programs, Braun will now be able to add one more accolade to his trophy case, a plaque showcasing his induction into the RMAC Hall of Fame as a member of the 2023 class.
