Regis' DaSilva, Western New Mexico's Metz named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. --
Junior Steven DaSilva of Regis University and Senior David Metz of Western New Mexico University have been named Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars for the 2013-14 academic year.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

DaSilva (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) finished his junior season with a 73.9 scoring averge, the second best scoring average in a season in RU history. His regular season propelled him to earn a spot as an individual in the NCAA South Central/West Super Regional where he finished in the upper half of the field.  He also earned Third Team All-RMAC and was able to take home individual medalist honors at the Fort Lewis/RMAC #1 event in September. DaSilva sports a 3.35 grade point average in business and was honored on the Academic All-RMAC Honor Roll this spring.

Metz, from Tucson, Ariz., capped his career in style being named First-Team All-RMAC both academically and as a golfer. Metz closed his last RMAC Championships winning the individual title by two-strokes with a 214 (73-67-74) and shooting his lowest round of the season (67) in the second round. He also claimed the Cal Baptist Invitational title with a 207, which was his lowest three round total of the season. Of the eight tournaments last season that he finished in the top-10, he shot six of them under-par. He finished with a degree this past spring in criminal justice and held a 3.46 GPA.
