GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines and the Mines Department of Athletics are sad to report the death of Christopher “Kit” Mayer, a redshirt sophomore on the Mines men’s cross country and track and field squads.
A native of Missoula, Montana, Mayer passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, as a result of a motorcycle accident just north of Salmon, Idaho. Born on November 29, 1993, Mayer was 20 years old at the time of his passing.
Mayer was currently studying Chemical Engineering at Mines and was named to the RMAC Academic Honor Roll during the 2013 cross country season, the 2013-14 indoor track & field season and the 2014 outdoor track & field season.
“Kit Mayer was a well-liked and respected member of our cross country and track programs," said Director of Athletics, David Hansburg. "He will be sorely missed by his teammates and the entire Mines Athletics Department. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mayer family."
A celebration of life service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, August 22, in Missoula, Mont., at 3500 Duncan Drive, Harmony Stables Services.
