RMAC Baseball Tournament - Final Bracket
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks are the 2015 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Champions, defeating Metropolitan State University of Denver 7-6 in the winner-takes-all "if necessary" game, on Sunday afternoon at Suplizio Field in Grand Junction, Colorado.
The Mavericks entered the tournament as the No. 1 seeded team, as well as the No. 2 team in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association poll. They defeated Adams State University, 3-2, in their tournament opener on Thursday. On Friday, the Mavs were forced to play their way back through the consolation bracket, after suffering a 4-2 loss to MSU Denver in the winner's bracket final. With weather delays occuring on Friday, they next took the field on Saturday, claiming a 9-4 win over No. 2 seeded Colorado State University-Pueblo, before facing MSU Denver again in the championship final. Still playing with one loss, CMU forced a third and final matchup with the Roadrunners by defeating them 8-4 in the first championship game. With further weather delays on Saturday, the final game was postponed until Sunday. In the finale, MSU Denver tied the game in the top of the eighth, but Tournament MVP Bligh Madris entered the game to pitch the final six outs, and Alex Fife delivered a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to clinch the championship for the Maverics.
