RMAC Football Record Book
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference is recognizing Earl “Dutch” Clark of Colorado College as the record holder for most rushing yards in a single game.
Clark rushed for 381 yards on November 24, 1928 in a game against the University of Wyoming when both schools were members of the RMAC.
This summer RMAC employees researched various media guides, websites and record books of the 29 football-playing members over the 105-year history of the conference in football.
All-time top ten lists have been put together in 15 categories for records in a game, season and career.
It was discovered that Clark’s monumental game had been overlooked by the RMAC since at least 1973.
The record is officially on the books at Colorado College, and has been widely recognized as one of the top collegiate performances of that era. As if his monstrous rushing performance wasn’t enough, Clark additionally passed for 200 yards in the same game. His 581 yards of total offense ranks in one game ranks eighth in the RMAC record book.
Clark, who attended Pueblo Central High School, was named All-American while in the RMAC and went on to star in the NFL for the Detroit Lions. He quarterbacked the Lions to the league championship in 1934. Clark also led the NFL in scoring three times, was a six-time all-pro and was a charter-member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963.
He is also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and in 2006, Clark was enshrined in the RMAC Hall of Fame.
