Adams State pulls away to win RMAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship

SPEARFISH, S.D. - Adams State won its eighth Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the last 11 years, posting 185 total points as the meet wrapped up Sunday at Lyle Hare Stadium.
The Grizzlies bested second-place Colorado Mines by 22 points after the Orediggers finished with 163 points. Chadron State finished third with 140 points, while Western State (91) and CSU-Pueblo (78) finished in the top five.
The Grizzlies swept the top three spots in the shot put, with Zach Baxter winning the event with an NCAA Division II provincial qualifying mark of 17.15 meters. Baxter's teammates Samuel Reid (17.13) and Jonathan Millar (17.09) finished second and third.
Western State's Kyree Gerstle-Goodman won the triple jump with a mark of 14.87. Chadron State's Dez Smith (14.44) finished second and CSU-Pueblo's Ron Sweeten (14.37) finished in the top three.
Adams State claimed another title in the high jump as Wyatt Cunningham won the event with a mark of 2.05. Chadron State's Zerek Jones (2.02) finished second, while Westminster's Casey Evans (1.97) finished third.
South Dakota Mines' Alex Wood won the javelin throw with an NCAA provincial-qualifying mark of 62.64. Western State's Sean Boozel (56.20) finished second, while Colorado Mines' Jeff Stephens (53.11) finished third.
CSU-Pueblo won the 4x100 relay, posting a time of 41.31. Chadron State (41.32) finished second and Western State (41.65) finished third.
Adams State's Brian Baum won the 1500-meter run with an NCAA provincial mark of 3:53.69. Black Hills State's Alec Baldwin (3:54.12) and Adams State's Sydney Gidabuday (3:54.65) finished second and third, respectively.
Colorado Mines' Triston Sisneros won the 110-meter hurdles, posting a time of 14.29 seconds. Western State's Gerstle-Goodman (14.45) and Adams State's Alex Jordan (14.49) finished second and third.
Colorado Mines' Ian Rozier won the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.68 seconds, good enough for an NCAA Division II provincial qualifier. Chadron State's Zerek Jones (47.79) finished second, while CSU-Pueblo's Dueth Vassell (48.29) finished third.
Adams State's Jurgen Themen set an RMAC record in the 100-meter dash, notching a time of 10.20 seconds. The previous RMAC record was 10.26 set by Fort Hays State's Mike Appelhans in 2003. Adams State's Chaz Butler (10.45) finished second, while Chadron State's Damarcus Simpson (10.47) finished third.
The 800-meter was full of RMAC marks as all three of the top finishers broke the RMAC record. Colorado Mines Patrick Weaver won the event with a time of 1:49.49, giving him an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying mark. Adams State's Oliver Aitchison (1:50.23) and CSU-Pueblo's Devundrick Walker (1:50.60) also both broke the RMAC record. The previous record of 1:50.69 was set in 2006 by Adams State's Nick Lara.
Colorado Mines' Sisneros took home the 400-meter hurdles title with a time of 52.15 seconds. Westminster's Wesley Spargo (53.44) and Colorado Mines' Jonathan Roy (53.66) placed in the top three.
Adams State's Themen also won the 200-meter dash, notching a time of 21.25 seconds. His teammate Chaz Butler (21.28) finished second, while CSU-Pueblo's Tevin Donnell (21.33
Black Hills State's Alec Baldwin won the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:50.04. Colorado Mines' Nathanael Williams (14:50.59) finished second, while Adams State's Sydney Gidabuday (14:52.42) finished third.
CSU-Pueblo's team of Tevin Donnell, Shawn Horne, Devundrick Walker and Dueth Vassell won the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:13.86. Colorado Mines (3:14.13) finished second and Western State (3:16.78) finished third.
