COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) indoor track & field teams in action with three weeks to go until RMAC Championships.
No.2 Adams State men’s indoor track and field team competed in the Grizzly-Buffalo Clash, a dual meet against West Texas A&M. Ian Kerr took a win in the 200m in an NCAA DII automatic qualifying time of 21.50. In the weight throw, Jonathan Millar claimed a first-place finish with a throw of 16.68m on the first day of competition. Jackson Sayler improved his mile time to the top of NCAA DII with an automatic qualifying time of 4:15.63. Sydney Gidabuday also took over the top time in the 3000m, as his 8:28.60 time was good for automatic qualification. The DMR team of Chandler Reid, Sean Fontana, Sayler and Gidabuday took home another first-place finish with a provisional qualifying time (10:20.24). Millar finished first once more on Saturday in the shot put, as teammates Sam Reid took second and Brecht Van Waes third. All three athletes’ throws were provisional qualifying distances.
On the women’s side, the No. 2 ranked Grizzlies’ women’s team got things started with a first-place finish in the distance medley relay. Rosin Flanagan, Jessica Scherrer, Leanne Allen and Jenna Thurman posted a NCAA DII automatic qualifying time of 11:55.18. Sunayna Wahi finished in first place in the 60m, as her preliminary time of 7.43 is the fastest 60m time in NCAA DII this season. Jenna Thurman also took over the top spot in NCAA DII in the 800m event (2:10.72) at the Grizzly-Buffalo Clash.
No.17 Western men and No. 8 Western women hosted its Alumni Open on Saturday. Alicija Konieczek continues to impress this indoor season, taking the national lead in the mile (4:41.83) with her second automatic qualification. Georgia Porter put up the third best time in NCAA Division II in the mile with an automatic qualifying time of 4:46.63. Lovina Akaoula broke the school record for shot put with a throw of 45-51/4. Noah Zorsky came up just short of his 5.41m NCAA Division II leading pole vault he set last week, settling for the second-best mark in the country this season at 5.35m.
No. 6 CSU-Pueblo competed in the Universtiy of New Mexico Classic and Multi in Albuquerque, New Mexico this week. Marcelo Laguera was the top finisher for the ThunderWolves, placing second in the 3000m with a provisional qualifying time of 8:31.74. Shawn Horne finished third out of the Division II runners in the 200m (21.77).
No. 23 CSU-Pueblo women’s team was led by its 4X400m relay team, consisting of Tatianna Clanton, Taliah Burney, Andrea Tuck and Sydni Riley. The four broke the school record and posted the 13th fastest time in NCAA Division II this season at 3:50.27. Both Bailey Hughes and Miriam Roberts improved in the mile to 5:02.48 and 5:07.78 respectively as both were good for provisional qualifying marks.
Chadron State traveled to Boulder, Colorado for the University of Colorado Invitational meet. Javan Lanier took third in the 60m (6.93) as teammate Andre Woodson finished fourth (6.94). Blake Jacobs took third in the shot put (53-9 ¾), Justin Leman third in the long jump (21-10) and Dez Smith third in the triple jump (46-3 ½).
The No. 5 Eagles’ women’s team were led by Mel Herl’s first place finish in the weight throw. Herl also took home third in the shot put (48-3/4). Stachia Reuwsaat finished third in the 60m (7.54) and the long jump (19-7). Tessa Gorsuch took third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.64.
Colorado Mesa was in attendance at the Western Alumni Open on Saturday. Michael Fera led the Mavericks, placing second in the 800m with a provisional time of 1:56.73. The Mavericks swept the 400m event, as Matt Miller (52.40) Marc Garcia (53.66) and Jake Vondrus (55.07) took first through third respectively. Trevor Jensen took first in the weight throw (54-6.75) and third in the shot put (48-10.75).
Gabriella Casey led the Mavericks’ women as she broke her own school record in the pole vault. She placed second with a jump of 11-1.75. Danielle Pickert took third in the shot put (38-10.25) and third in the weight throw (40-11.5). Mekayla Winchester finished first in the 60m hurdles (8.87), beating out teammate McKayla Thomas (9.53) who placed second.
MSU Denver traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the New Mexico Classic, while half the team attended the Colorado Invite in Boulder, Colorado on Saturday. Erica Ruiz was the top Roadrunner finisher at the New Mexico Classic taking seventh place in the 3000m event. Kyle Jones finished 15th in the mile (4:34.05) as the top Roadrunner in Boulder on Saturday.
Colorado School of Mines competed in the Colorado Open in Boulder Colorado this weekend. Austin Smith claimed a provisional mark in the heptathlon with a third-place finish (5,078). Logan Winfield also claimed a provisional mark, finishing seventh in the mile with a time of 4:12.25. Jake Pinkston took first in the pole vault with a jump of 15-7. Hunter Arnell finished in second in the 400m with a provisional qualifying time of 48.66.
On the women’s side, Molly Reicher was the highest Oredigger finisher at sixth-place in the mile (5:11.69), as teammate Chloe Cook took seventh (5:12.73).
New Mexico Highlands traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the New Mexico Classic this weekend. Elicia Gallegos finished seventh overall in the 400m and first out of NCAA DII runners with the ninth fastest time in DII this season (56.00). The Cowgirls 4X400m relay team of Kristen Montano, Osheen Erskine, Janell Fullerton and Gallegos took second overall with a time of 3:49.4, the sixth fastest time in DII.
Fort Lewis competed in the Western Alumni Open in Gunnison, Colorado this week. Sydni Brandon took first in the long jump (5.15m) as the Skyhawks distance medley relay team of Erin Renner, Emily White, Cassandra Porter and Becca Bramley also took first (13:56.69).
