CSM's Flynn Earns 2016-17 J.W.Campbell/Con Marshall SID of the Year Award
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines’ (CSM) Tim Flynn is this year’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) J.W. Campbell/Con Marshall Sports Information Director of the Year.
The award is voted on by the conference’s 15 sports information directors (SID). Each SID provides their top three choices for the award and cannot vote for themselves.
“It is humbling to receive this award, especially when I think about the incredible SIDs around the RMAC as well as the contributions that Con Marshall and J.W. Campbell have made to our field,” said Tim Flynn, CSM Assistant Athletic Director for Communications. “I want to thank the Mines coaches and administration, especially our athletic director David Hansburg, and most of all our outstanding undergraduate staff that I am proud to share this award with.”
Tim just completed his second year with the Orediggers and is currently the sports contact for all 16 varsity sports. This year, Tim led the transition of MinesAthletics.com to the Sidearm platform in the summer of 2016.
He was the host SID for three major NCAA Division II events including the 2016 NCAA Women’s Soccer West/South Central Regional Tournament, and the 2017 NCAA Wrestling Super Region Four Championships and the 2016-17 NCAA Men’s Basketball South Central Regional. The Orediggers men’s basketball squad won the NCAA DII South Central Regional title and took a trip to Sioux Falls, South Dakota were Tim worked the NCAA Elite Eight tournament. In addition, he promoted the 2016 Harlon Hill Trophy winner and D2CCA National Player of the Year, Justin Dvorak, six Academic All-Americans, five RMAC regular season, and three RMAC Tournament champions.
In this year's vote, Black Hills State's Ryan Hilgemann finished second, while Fort Lewis' Sarah Meier finished third.
The award is named after two RMAC Hall of Fame sports information directors. J. W. Campbell was a long-time SID at Western State. He was also the assistant to the Western State President, an assistant professor, teaching seven separate disciplines and was the school’s information director. Campbell also co-authored two books and wrote numerous articles for magazines and trade publications. He passed away in March 2000, was inducted into the RMAC Hall of Fame in July 2007.
Con Marshall spent 36 years as sports information director at Chadron State College. He was inducted into the RMAC Hall of Fame on July 11, 2014. A native of Chadron, Nebraska, and a CSC graduate, Marshall’s named was added to the award in 2007. He has received a 25-year award from the College Sports Information Directors of America and served on the Harlon Hill Award Selection Committee.
Tim will be recognized at the 2017 RMAC Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet on Friday, July 14 at the Colorado Springs Marriott Hotel. For more information,
