COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines’ Mikey Gangwish, Regis’ Brad Thoutt, Colorado Mesa’s Jordan Stubbings, and UCCS’ Jonathan Cowles were named the 2018 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Baseball Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Freshman Position Player of the Year, and Freshman Pitcher of the Year, respectively. These major awards were announced on Tuesday, along with All-RMAC teams.
The major awards, along with All-RMAC First and Second Teams were voted on by the conference’s head coaches, who could not vote for their own players. Those that received one First Team vote, or two Second Team votes were named Honorable Mention.
Junior Mikey Gangwish is the Player of the Year honors. Gangwish led the conference in slugging percentage .862, runs batted in with 67, and total bases 150.
Brad Thoutt earned Pitcher of the Year. The Highlands Ranch native finished the season with a 3.68 ERA and led the conference in fanned batters at 85 and wins with nine.
Jordan Stubbings tied to lead the conference in fielding percentage at 1.00 and finished second in the conference for batting average .422 and slugging percentage .817. The freshman helped to lead the Mavericks to their seventh-straight regular season title
Jonathan Cowles, a Greeley, Colorado native, earned the Freshman Pitcher of the Year award. the freshman finished the season with a 3-0 record and fanned 21 batters.
Chris Hanks of Colorado Mesa was voted the RMAC Baseball Coach of the Year. Hanks helped to coach the Mavericks to their seventh-straight regular season conference title.
The 2018 RMAC Baseball Tournament kicks off this Thursday in Grand Junction, Colorado.
