COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.— Colorado School of Mines punched its ticket to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) tournament as the Orediggers have a perfect 17-0 conference record. Five games remain in the regular season and 14 other schools remain in contention for a playoff berth.
TEAM HIGHLIGHTS
- The No. 12th nationally ranked Orediggers set a program record with their 19th straight victory after downing Chadron State, 90-56 and MSU Denver, 66-60. Colorado School of Mines shot an impressive 66% from the field in the matchup against Chadron State.
- Colorado School of Mines reached the 20-win plateau for its sixth straight season.
- Regis scored 54 second half points to push past Fort Lewis for a 86-70 final score. The Rangers currently sit in second place in the conference standings with a 13-4 record.
- Black Hills State picked up two wins this past weekend including a go-ahead three pointer with less then eight seconds remaining to bring its RMAC record to 12-5 and are currently ranked third. The Yellow Jackets defeated CSU-Pueblo (89-64) and New Mexico Highlands (66-65).
- Dixie State downed Western, 74-52 before a battle with Colorado Mesa that saw 10 ties and eight lead changes in the first half. The Trailblazers would open the second half on a small run and wouldn’t look back holding on to an 80-73 victory.
- Dixie State now sits in a three-way tie for fourth place with New Mexico Highlands and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). Each team holds a 11-6 conference record.
- New Mexico Highlands used a big 21-4 run in the first half as well as a stout defense that forced 18 turnovers in the game to defeat South Dakota Mines, 95-82. The Cowboys did not trail in the second half and only committed three turnovers throughout the 40 minutes of play.
- UCCS used clutch free throw shooting late in the game, knocking down all six with under 1:30 left to earn the 71-70 win over MSU Denver. The Mountain Lions then overcame a 19-point deficit with 11:46 left in the game to defeat Chadron State, 97-87.
- The Colorado Mesa defense smothered Westminster holding the Griffins to 39% shooting from the field in the Mavericks 77-56 win. Colorado Mesa currently sits in 7th in the RMAC standings with a 10-7 record.
- Adams State would score a combined 85 points in the paint in its two wins over Regis (78-70) and Colorado Christian (78-57). With the two wins the Grizzlies hold onto the eighth playoff spot with a 9-8 conference record.
- South Dakota Mines sits one spot back of the eighth and final playoff spot with an 8-9 record after defeating CSU-Pueblo, 80-66.
- Westminster and Fort Lewis both split their weekend going 1-1 in conference play.
RMAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
- John Dewey was a force on offense for the Grizzlies as he averaged 26 points per contest to be named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week! Dewey shot 53% from the field while also dishing out 2.0 assists and bringing down 4.5 rebounds per contest.
- Logan Elers recorded back-to-back double-doubles for South Dakota Mines to be named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week. Elers posted an average of 14 points and 10 rebounds per game while also dishing out 2.0 steals.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
- Jarrett Brodbeck became the all-time leading scorer in Regis men’s basketball history and now sits atop of the scoring list with 1,817 career points. He averaged 24.5 points per game including going 10-20 from beyond the arc.
- Black Hills State’s Tyler Oliver had an all-around performance as he averaged 17.0 points per game while shooting 59.1 percent from the field. Oliver also dished out 5.5 assists and brought down 6.0 rebounds per game.
- Shemar Johnson of Adams State averaged 14 points on 50% shooting, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 2.5 blocks per contest over the weekend.
- For the second time this year, Druce Asah tied the MSU Denver school record by making nine 3-pointers in a game. He averaged 25 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest.
- Mitchell Sueker had a productive weekend averaging 18 points and 7.0 rebounds a game over the weekend and shot 63 percent from the field.
- For the week Brenden Boatwright averaged 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, shot 100 percent from the field (11-11) and 81 percent at the charity stripe for Fort Lewis.
- Julien Ducree of Dixie State averaged 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds, while shooting 61.9 percent (13-21) from the field.
- Westminster’s Brandon Warr nearly averaged a double-double as he recorded 12 points and nine rebounds per game while also averaging 1.5 steals.
- DaRun Clark averaged 11.5 points per game, brought down 7.0 boards, recorded 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game for UCCS.
- Connor Nichols averaged 23 points per game in the Mavericks weekend split while also hauling in an average of 6.0 rebounds.
- Colorado School of Mines’ Michael Glen was a force on the defensive side of the ball as he recorded 2.0 blocks per game while also bringing down 7.0 rebounds and 11 points per game.
- Zach Frampton averaged 9.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals in DSU's home sweep
- UCCS’ Padiet Wang averaged 15.5 points while grabbing 5.0 rebounds per game and shooting the ball at a 56.3% clip (9-16).
- Kendall McIntosh for the weekend averaged 6.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks for MSU Denver.
- Jacob Jefferson averaged 12.5 points a game on only 22 total minutes for the Eagles.
- Jake Connor of Westminster averaged 15.0 points per game.
- Fort Lewis’ Otas Iyekekpolor averaged 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 points per contest.
