Full Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) announced the 2018-19 All-RMAC wrestling teams and major award winners on Wednesday.
Western Colorado University’s Brandon Supernaw was named the RMAC Wrestler of the Year and Jonathan Andreatta of Adams State University was tabbed RMAC Freshman of the Year. Colorado School of Mines’ head wrestling coach, Austin DeVoe was selected as Coach of the Year.
The major awards and the All-RMAC teams were nominated and voted on by the conference’s eight head wrestling coaches. Coaches could not vote for their own student-athletes.
Supernaw guided No. 11 Western to the RMAC Co-Championship title last week as the team finished the regular-season with a 6-1 RMAC record. The redshirt senior is currently ranked No. 1 at 174-pounds and will head into regionals with an undefeated record (17-0, five pins, one tech fall, five major decisions). Supernaw was named the RMAC Preseason Wrestler of the Year at the beginning of the season and earned Wrestler of the Week honors twice (Dec. 4, Feb. 14). Last campaign, he took second at regionals and third at NCAA Nationals. The All-American currently holds a 109-29 career record.
Andreatta, a 125-pounder from Walsenburg, Colorado was named RMAC Wrestler of the Week once this season (Jan. 15). He helped the Grizzlies to a 6-2 RMAC record and posted a regular-season record of 15-1 overall. Eight of his 15 wins came by way of decision, three were by major decision, two from tech falls and tallied two pins. The redshirt freshman also went 6-0 against RMAC opponents.
DeVoe, in his fifth season as head coach, led the Orediggers to a historic regular-season as the team captured its first RMAC title in program history. Along with WCU, the Orediggers posted a 6-1 RMAC record.
Nearly all RMAC wrestling programs were represented on the All-RMAC teams. The No. 8 CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves had the most student-athletes on First Team All-RMAC with three, while Colorado School of Mines landed a total of five on First and Second Team All-RMAC.
The RMAC wrestling programs will compete at the NCAA Super Region VI Championships on Feb. 22-23 in Nebraska, Kearney.
