2019 #RMACsb Weekly Recap: Week 8

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.—With a month left in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) softball season, the top of the standings is log-jammed.
 
TEAM HIGHLIGHTS
  • Colorado Christian holds the RMAC’s longest winning streak with ten straight after they swept Chadron State (8-0; 8-0; 16-4; 4-2) with the first two games being in six and five innings, respectively.
  • Colorado Mesa is sitting second place as they are on an eight-game winning streak after they swept a three-game series with Adams State with identical 9-0 scores in five innings.
  • Colorado School of Mines took three of four from Dixie State as they won the first game (4-2) and the final two games of the series (3-1; 9-2). Dixie State won the second game of the series (4-1).
  • Regis hosted Fort Lewis and Regis for a pod weekend series. After dropping the first game to Regis (2-1, they battled for an eight-inning win over Fort Lewis (5-4). The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Mountain Lions while they continued their winning streak with Sunday wins over Regis (10-4) and Fort Lewis (13-5).
    • Regis and Fort Lewis split their two games with Regis winning the second game (9-1) in five innings. The Skyhawks won the first game (9-7).
  • MSU Denver took three of four games from CSU-Pueblo. They posted a shutout in the first game (5-0) before sweeping Sunday’s doubleheader (8-2; 3-2) with the second game being in walk-off fashion. The ThunderWolves won the second game of the series (7-3).
     
 
RMAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
  • Kacie Burger was a leading force for Colorado Christian. She earned hits in every game and was named RMAC Player of the Week after tallying eight hits, six runs, four RBI and three home runs. Burger was also a strong factor in the team’s defense, making incredible plays across the board.
  • Kimbri Herring posted a pair of two-hit shutouts for Colorado Mesa to be named RMAC Pitcher of the Week. Herring struck out 12 Grizzlies in her two starts and allowed just one walk while holding her opponents to a .118 batting average. She struck out seven of the first ten batters she faced on Sunday and did not have a runner reach third base in either game.
     
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Braelyne Crenshaw earned two wins and a save in the circle in three games, posting an ERA of 0.88 for UCCS. The freshman pitcher allowed only one run and six hits and struck out five batters in eight innings of work.
  • Claire Stringfellow of Colorado School of Mines went 2-0 with a save and a 0.00 ERA. The Orediggers won all three of Stringfellow's appearances as she allowed just eight hits with zero walks and zero earned runs in 10.0 innings. Stringfellow extended her streak of innings without allowing an earned run to 22.2, and she has allowed only two unearned runs in that span.
  • Darby McGhee of MSU Denver made two starts over the weekend throwing 13 innings and earning two wins while striking out 16, walking just three, giving up just eight hits and giving up just one earned run, lowering her season ERA from 3.12 to 2.78.
  • Angelique Elemen broke her fourth Fort Lewis school record this season when she tallied her 45th career double. Overall for the week she had six hits, posted a .500 average, a home run, two doubles, four runs scored, five RBI and had a walk while collecting 34 putouts and an assist without an error in the field.
  • Senior Rayle Glover led UCCS' offense by batting .533 with a .533 OB% and an .800 slugging %. She collected eight hits, drove in six runs and scored four times. Defensively, she was perfect all weekend on ten chances (seven assists).
  • Regis’ Macy Cox finished the weekend going 4-for-9 at the plate. She recorded five runs as well as a team-leading three homeruns through four games. Cox tallied two RBIs as well as 26 putouts.
  • Alexa Samuels had a career-day on Saturday as she went 5-for-6 while driving out two home runs and racking up seven RBIs for Colorado Mesa. She hit a 2-run homer and then another 3-run walk-off shot in the opening game of the series before coming back to go 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the second. She finished the weekend hitting .625 (5-8) while racking up a 2.000 OPS with a 1.375 slugging percentage. She also scored three runs.
  • Rebecca Gonzales went 8-for-13 (.615) with three doubles and two RBIs for MSU Denver.
