GRAND JUNCTION, COLO.—The 2019 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC)/ Under Armour Women’s Basketball Tournament will reach an apex on Saturday as the host Colorado Mesa University Mavericks and Westminster Griffins will battle for the title.
SEMIFINAL MATCHUPS
- No. 1 Colorado Mesa defeated No. 4 Colorado School of Mines 62-54. The game was a back-and-forth affair that saw the Orediggers take an early lead including a 14-0 run in the first quarter before the Mavericks retaliated with an 11-0 run of their own in the second.
- No. 2 Westminster defeated No. 6 Regis to advance to the championship 67-54. Despite playing without one of their best players, the Griffins outscored the Rangers 21-13 in the second quarter. Despite the game getting close in the second half, Denise Gonzalez took the game into her hands with five steals to seal the win.
CHAMPIONSHIP
Saturday, March 9 | Grand Junction, Colo.
- No. 2 Westminster vs. No. 1 Colorado Mesa - 6 p.m.
- Since joining the RMAC in 2015, Westminster will be attempting to win their first ever RMAC crown.
- Colorado Mesa will be attempting to win their fourth tournament title and their first since 2014 when they defeated Black Hills State (73-55).
- The two teams have already met twice this season within a two-week span with both teams winning their home game. CMU won on Jan. 26, 57-49, while WC won on Feb. 8, 61-57.
