COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – On a cold sunny morning, it was Colorado School of Mines that claimed the men’s Team Title while Western Colorado University earned the women’s Team Title at the 2020 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Cross Country Championships. Additionally, Colorado School of Mines swept the Individual Champions as Dylan Ko and Zo Baker topped the talented field.
 
12 RMAC programs competed at the RMAC Cross Country Championships hosted by the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). *Each institution has the option to opt out due to Covid-19. CSU Pueblo, Regis and New Mexico Highlands have decided to opt out.
 
MEN’S RECAP 

TEAM PERFORMANCES
It was a blistery morning at Monument Valley Park as the runners took the line with the men’s 8K race starting with temperatures in the low 40’s. The runners conversed the course staying in a tight pack for most of the race. Colorado School of Mines placed eight runners in the top-13 to take the Team Title by tallying a score of 22. This marked their second straight RMAC Championship and four titles in the last five years.
 
Western Colorado had five runners in the top-19 to take home second place with a score of 60. Marking their best finish in program history was Colorado Christian as the Cougars ran to a third-place finish with an overall score of 89. Adams State scored 95 points to finish in fourth while Colorado Mesa secured the fifth spot with a final of 131 points. The host University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCSC) placed sixth with a team score of 151.

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES
Winning his second straight RMAC Individual Title was Dylan Ko from Colorado School of Mines. Ko used a similar strategy from last year as he slightly pulled away from the field with roughly 1 kilometer remaining in the race to cross the line in a time of 24:18.4. Finishing in second place was Adams State’s Isaiah Rodarte who conversed the course in 24:22.1. Colorado School of Mines’ teammates Kyle Moran (24:23.3) and Chris Cathcart (24:27.9) finished in third and fourth, respectively. Charlie Sweeney from Western Colorado rounded out the top-five crossing the line in 24:30.5.

WOMEN’S RECAP

TEAM PERFORMANCES
Western Colorado led from start to finish as they claimed their eighth Conference Championship and first since 2011. The Mountaineers placed their top-four runners in the top-10 of the race to secure the Title with 42 points. Colorado School of Mines finished in second with a final score of 59. MSU Denver placed third overall with 85 points as the Road Runners tied their best finish in program history.
 
Rounding out the top-five was the Mountain Lions who scored 95 points and Adams State taking fifth with 115 points. After finishing 11th last year and being picked to finish ninth in the preseason poll, the Griffins of Westminster had a strong performance finishing in 6th with a score of 165.

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES
Zoe Baker of Colorado School of Mines distanced herself from the lead pack with just over 2K to go and finished strong to take the Individual Title with a time of 21:11.5. Conversing the 6K course in a time of 21:19.0 was Erin Norton of MSU Denver who finished in second. Adams State’s Brianna Robles crossed the line in third with an overall time of 21:20.1. Western Colorado teammates rounded out the top-five as Bailey Sharon (21:21.5) and Katie Doucette (21:26.3) finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.

A D2 National Invitational meet will be held on Nov. 14 on the campus of Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas.  The top six teams at the RMAC Championships and the top three individuals from each race will be invited to compete.
