COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western Colorado’s Taylor Stack and Colorado School of Mines’ Zoe Baker have been named the 2020 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Cross Country Academic Runners of the Year presented by Barnes & Noble College.

Barnes & Noble College is the offical bookstore partner of the RMAC and currently operates 769 campus bookstores and their school-branded e-commerce sites, serving more than 6 million college students and faculty nationwide. As a strategic partner, Barnes & Noble College is a retail and learning company.

The award winners, along with other First Team All-Academic members, were voted on by the conference’s sports information directors. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have been an active student at the institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters and carry a cumulative 3.30 grade point average (GPA).

All student-athletes that met those requirements but were not selected for First Team automatically qualified for Honor Roll. Due to Covid-19, Regis and CSU Pueblo who opted out of the season were eligible for Honor Roll honors.

144 men and women earned All-Academic recognition this season, including 74 student-athletes on the women’s side which marked the third highest number for women’s cross country.

Baker made history as she became the first male or female cross country runner to earn the RMAC Summit Award, Runner of the Year and Academic Runner of the Year award in the same year. Baker majors in Computer Science while holding a perfect 4.0 GPA. The Longmont, Colorado native bested the RMAC field at the Championships by nearly eight seconds. At last year’s NCAA Championship, the Oredigger crossed the line in 19th place.

Stack became the first men’s cross country runner to win the award in back-to-back years since Aaron Braun won the award three years in a row from 07-09 for Adams State. The Mountaineer is a senior who holds a 3.82 GPA while majoring in Biology/Chemistry. The Salida, Colorado native placed seventh at the RMAC Championships after winning every race he competed in during the season. Last year, Stack placed third overall at the NCAA National Championship.
