COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) opened their 2020 seasons with abundance of non-conference matchups.
TEAM HIGHLIGHTS
- Regis (1-0, 0-0 RMAC) picked up their first win of their 2020 campaign at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City for the second straight year. The Rangers defeated Franklin Pierce University out of New Hampshire by a score of 15-3. Regis had a strong first half as they scored 11 unanswered goals against the Ravens after allowing the first goal just three minutes in. They would roll in the second half with four ore goals to secure the win. The Rangers would win majority of the draw controls as they took 14 out of the 19.
- CSU Pueblo started their season off against Franklin Pierce where they fell short. The Thunderwolves scored their first goal of the season in just 36 seconds then scored again 44 seconds later. CSU Pueblo had 15 shots on goal out of 19 taken. On top of that, Thunderwolves’ were able to save 17 shots on goal by the Ravens.
- Colorado Mesa, Oklahoma Baptist and UCCS also commence their 2020 seasons
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
- Ali Vanek of Regis Rangers has been named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week! Vanek led the No. 4 ranked Regis Rangers to a 15-4 blowout win over Franklin Pierce University on Friday. She netted a game-high five goals, outscoring the Ravens by two goals herself. Vanek also added an assist for six total points in the game. Took six shots in the game, scored five of them.
- Elle Crawford of Regis Rangers has been named RMAC Defensive Player of the Week! Elle Crawford was unbeatable in between the pipes in the season opening win for Regis. The goalie made 12 saves and only allowed three goals for a remarkable .800 save percentage. She also had 11 ground balls in the game as she consistently disrupted the opponents’ offense.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
- Emily Eller of CSU Pueblo scored three goals for the ThunderWolves in the season and home opener against Franklin Pierce. She totaled five shots with three on goal. The junior scored a player-up goal and netted a goal on a free position shot.
- Ane Marie Horton of CSU Pueblo totaled 17 saves in the season and home opener Sunday. She faced 30 shots in the 13-7 loss to Franklin Pierce.
