2020 #RMACxc Weekly Release - Week 1

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) officially kicked off its fall competition this past weekend as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) and Fort Lewis competed in a duel cross country meet.
This marked the first college sporting event in the state of Colorado since March and was the first cross country race in any National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) division this fall.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
- The Mountain Lions and Skyhawks laced up their spikes at Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs, Colo. to start their seasons, as UCCS swept Fort Lewis earning both the men’s and women’s titles. The men earned a perfect score winning 15-48 while the women won 17-46.
RMAC RUNNERS OF THE WEEK
- Afewerki Zeru has earned the RMAC Runner of the Week after winning the individual title at the UCCS Rust Buster. Zeru conversed the 8K course in a time of 25:23.7 to start his 2020 campaign.
- UCCS’ Hannah Ellis has earned the RMAC Runner of the Week after posting a career best 5K time of 18:06.1 to win the UCCS Rust Buster. She crossed the line 30 seconds ahead of second place.
NOTEWORTHY PERFORMANCES
- Steven Nez paced the Fort Lewis men’s team at the UCCS Rust Buster finishing 7th overall with a time of 26:30.0.
- Makiah Salzano crossed the line in 4th place at the UCCS Rust Buster for the Skyhawks. She started her season off on a high note as she ran her fastest 5K by over a minute finishing in a time of 18:48.60.
