Colorado Mesa Named RMAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Preseason Favorites

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa is the preseason favorite heading into the 2021-22 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Swimming and Diving season, the league announced Friday. The preseason poll is voted on by the league’s four head coaches.
 
The Mavericks embark on the 2021-22 season with nine points and four first-place votes in preseason voting after claiming their third-consecutive RMAC championship and the fifth in program history. CMU opens its season Friday, hosting the 11th Annual Intermountain Shootout, a two-day event held at El Pomar Natatorium in Grand Junction, Colo. Colorado Mesa is coming off a stellar season where the Mavericks posted an 11th-place finish at the 2021 NCAA Championships.
 
In a tie for second place is Colorado School of Mines and Oklahoma Christian after each program garnered six points in preseason voting. Despite the tie for the second-place position, Oklahoma Christian secured the final first-place vote in the poll. The Orediggers open their season with the Alumni Meet Saturday, Oct. 2, before heading to the Air Force Triangular #1 in Colorado Springs, Colo., Friday, Oct. 15.
 
Oklahoma Christian competed in the Maroon-Gray Intrasquad meet to open the season and claimed a sixth-place finish at the CSCAA National Collegiate Open Water Swimming Championship on Friday, Sept. 17. Up next, the Eagles travel to Arkadelphia, Ark., for a meet against Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist next weekend, beginning Friday, Oct. 8, and concluding Saturday, Oct. 9.
 
Adams State resides in fourth place in preseason voting ahead of the 2021-22 season, receiving three points. The Grizzlies will also be in attendance at the Intermountain Shootout this weekend in Grand Junction, Colo. Adams State has eight regular-season events lined up on its schedule for the 2021-22 campaign.
