Orediggers’ Matocha, Minnehan and Hardrockers’ Eastman Claim RMAC Football Player of the Week Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines’ John Matocha and Mack Minnehan join South Dakota Mines’ Isaiah Eastman as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Football Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
 
Matocha claims Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading the No. 5-ranked Orediggers to 41-20 victory on the road against Black Hills State over the weekend, throwing for a career-high 362 yards and four touchdowns in the process. Minnehan earns Defensive Player of the Week honors for Mines after ringing up seven tackles and one interception against the Yellow Jackets last weekend.
 
Eastman is the Special Teams Player of the Week after an impressive outing for the Hardrockers, where he returned three punts for a combined 60 yards and one kickoff for 38 yards in a 42-7 win at home against Fort Lewis.
 
The weekly awards mark the first of the season for Matocha, Minnehan and Eastman.
 
Offensive Player of the Week: John Matocha, Colorado School of Mines – Jr. – QB – Magnolia, Texas
Matocha’s career day highlighted a 41-20 road win over Black Hills State for the fifth-ranked Orediggers. The junior completed 29 of his 35 passing attempts in the contest for an 82.8 completion average. He added in eight rushes for 36 yards and completed passes to seven different receivers throughout the game.
 
Defensive Player of the Week: Mack Minnehan, Colorado School of Mines – Sr. – LB – Woodinville, Wash.
Minnehan led the Orediggers’ defense in a victory on the road, compiling a trio of unassisted tackles seven tackles in total on the day. The senior notched one tackle for loss and picked off a pass in the first quarter of the game, which led to a touchdown for Colorado School of Mines. Minnehan and the Orediggers’ defense limited Black Hills State to 278 total yards in the matchup.
 
Special Teams Player of the Week: Isaiah Eastman, South Dakota Mines – Fr. – WR – Gilbert, Ariz.
Eastman racked up a trio of punt returns and one kickoff return for the Hardrockers last weekend, pacing his squad to a 42-7 win at home against the Skyhawks. The freshman tallied one receiving touchdown on the day. His longest punt return of the contest was a 36-yarder that came early in the first quarter.
