Taylor Diem Named Regis Head Men's Soccer Coach
DENVER, Colo. – Regis University Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics,
David Spafford, has announced that
Taylor Diem has been named the Head Regis University Men's Soccer Coach after spending the last three seasons as the Assistant Men's Soccer Coach for the Rangers.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be the next head coach of the men's soccer team here at Regis. I'd like to thank
David Spafford for entrusting me to lead this program and
Tony McCall for his mentorship and for preparing me for this role over the past 5 years." said Diem, "Regis and the men's soccer team have always held a special place in my heart and I couldn't be more excited to continue working with our student-athletes. These are quality young men, both on the field and off, and I'm confident that with continued hard work we'll be competing for RMAC championships and NCAA tournament bids.
Diem, who had been serving as the Acting Head Coach for the 2021 season, had the "acting" tag removed as he was officially named the head coach this afternoon. Throughout his time as a coach on the RU staff, the record of the team is 30-17-6 including a 23-10 record in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). In 2018, Diem served as the acting head coach for the first time, guiding the men's soccer team to a 10-6-2 overall record including a 9-3-2 record in RMAC play which earned fourth place in the standings and a berth in the RMAC Tournament.
Diem is an alum of the Regis Men's Soccer program where he played three seasons and was named Daktronics All-America First Team and the NSCAA All-America Second Team in addition to being named RMAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-RMAC First Team during his senior season. During his time on the men's soccer team, the team had a combined record of 44-9-6 which included the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010. His team was also ranked #1 in the NSCAA rankings for three-straight weeks.
"Coach Diem has performed well in all aspects of the head coaching position in the two opportunities he has had." said Spafford, "From his technical knowledge and teaching of the game, to working with the players, communicating and connecting with alumni, and interacting with other departments on campus. He has earned this opportunity to continue building our program at a championship level."
This season, Diem has led the team to a 6-2-1 overall record and they are currently undefeated in conference play with a 2-0 record, earning wins over MSU Denver and South Dakota Mines this past week. Regis is 4-0 at home this season.
Congratulations, Taylor!
