Matocha, Jones, Cook Claim RMAC Football Player of the Week Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines’ John Matocha, New Mexico Highlands Lebarron Jones and Colorado State University Pueblo’s Andrew Cook are the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Football Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
 
Matocha earns his second Offensive Player of the Week award this season after pushing the Orediggers to a 34-7 win over Chadron State last weekend. The junior dealt out a trio of passing touchdowns for Mines, compiling 310 passing yards and 38 rushing yards along the way.
 
Jones was a menace on defense last weekend for New Mexico Highlands, leading his squad to a decisive 58-28 victory at home against Adams State. The junior defensive back registered seven tackles, two interceptions and a pair of pass breakups for the Cowboys. The award marks the first of the season for Jones.
 
Cook claims his first Special Teams Player of the Week honor of the season after tabbing a punt return for a touchdown in a 73-0 win over Fort Lewis last weekend. The freshman was successful on his lone punt return of the contest, compiling 73 yards to the house for the ThunderWolves.
 
Offensive Player of the Week: John Matocha, Colorado School of Mines – Jr. – QB – Magnolia, Texas
Matocha threw for 310 yards and three touchdowns to lead Colorado School of Mines in its 34-7 win over Chadron State Saturday. Matocha was an efficient 74.2-percent on his passes and threw touchdowns of 11 yards, 11 yards and 46 yards on the afternoon. He also picked up a crucial 4th-and-7 conversion with an eight-yard rush in the second quarter to extend a drive that ultimately led to a touchdown for the Orediggers.
 
Defensive Player of the Week: Lebarron Jones, New Mexico Highlands – Jr. – DB – Mobile, Ala.
Jones was a key component for the Cowboys’ secondary, which limited Adams State to 28 points over the weekend. The junior secured seven solo tackles and added in a pair of interceptions for New Mexico Highlands, which ignited the Cowboys’ offense. Jones added one tackle for loss and a pair of pass breakups in the contest.
 
Special Teams Player of the Week: Andrew Cook, CSU Pueblo – Fr. – WR – Tucson, Ariz.
Cook weaved through the Skyhawks’ punt coverage team and ran home a 73-yard punt return for a ThunderWolves touchdown Saturday. The play marks Cook’s first career punt return for a touchdown and was his lone punt return of the contest against Fort Lewis. In addition to his play on the punt-return team, he also registered a 21-yard kickoff return for CSU Pueblo.
