COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Second-seeded University of Colorado Colorado Springs claimed the 2021 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Women’s Soccer Tournament championship Saturday after a 3-1 win over No. 4 seed Regis at Mountain Lion Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Jadyn LeDoux was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) after pushing the Mountain Lions to their first RMAC tournament championship since the 2017 season with two goals and one assist in Saturday’s match. The freshman striker put UCCS on the board in the 32nd minute after receiving a pass inside the 18-yard box from Tarah Patterson. The Mountain Lions’ offense continued to press Regis, but the Rangers withstood the pressure and closed out the opening half with a 1-0 deficit.

The second half opened with 21 minutes of scoreless play before LeDoux found the net once again for the Mountain Lions, this time in the 66th minute. LeDoux’s second goal came off of an assist from Bri Johnson to put UCCS up 2-0. Nine minutes later, Johnson jumped into the scoring column with a successful strike from the top of the 18-yard box to extend the Mountain Lions lead to 3-0 with 15 minutes left in regulation.

Regis would not be shut out in the contest as Kelby Kuo was awarded a penalty kick in the 86th minute. Kuo claimed her 15th goal of the season after tucking the penalty kick inside the left post to cut the Mountain Lions’ lead to 3-1. However, UCCS dug its heels in and closed out the final four minutes of play to capture its second RMAC Women’s Soccer Tournament title in program history.

The Mountain Lions closed out the contest with 14 shots and six shots-on-goal, increasing their win streak to eight matches. Regis’ goalkeeper Katelyn Martin made three saves on the afternoon to keep the Rangers in contention, but the UCCS offense proved to be too much.

Following the conclusion of Saturday’s championship match, the 2021 RMAC Women’s Soccer All-Tournament team was announced. In addition to LeDoux’s MVP honor, UCCS placed five others on the all-tournament roster in Patterson, Alexis Walker, Katie Puchino, Tori Maydew and Ella Fischer. Regis landed four honorees on the all-tournament team in Katelyn Martin, Gia Lemley, Sarah Wynn and Kuo. Colorado School of Mines’ Sierra Roth and Colorado Mesa’s Lexi Newton also found spots on the all-tournament squad.

With the automatic NCAA Tournament qualifier in their pocket, the No. 9 ranked Mountain Lions will learn their opponent in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in Monday’s selection show, which is scheduled to air at 4 p.m. (MT) on NCAA.com.
