Chadron State’s Holst, Geil, Jones Sweep Final RMAC Football Player of the Week Honors of the Season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Chadron State registered a clean sweep with Dalton Holst, Joey Geil and Gunnar Jones claiming the final Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Football Player of the Week awards of the 2021 season, the league announced Monday.
 
Holst claims his first Offensive Player of the Week honor this season after pacing the Eagles’ offense with 236 passing yards and four passing touchdowns in Saturday’s 57-6 road win over Black Hills State. The Gillette, Wyo., native connected on 16 of his 22 passing attempts for the afternoon to average 10.73 yards per pass.
 
Geil earns his first Defensive Player of the Week award this season after registering 10 tackles against the Yellow Jackets on Saturday. He finished the contest with 1.5 tackles for loss and five solo tackles while recovering a fumble in the Eagles’ landslide victory.
 
For the third time in the 2021 season, Jones is the Special Team Player of the Week after accounting for 15 points by himself Saturday on the road against Black Hills State. The junior was perfect on all six of his PATs and also converted all three of his field-goal attempts in the game.
 
Offensive Player of the Week: Dalton Holst, Chadron State – Gr. – QB – Gillette, Wyo.
Holst threw for 236 yards and four touchdowns Saturday, efficiently connecting on 16 of his 22 passing attempts in the contest. His performance against the Yellow Jackets brings him to 11,529 career passing yards and 97 career touchdown passes for the Eagles. His longest touchdown strike of the game was a 71-yard bomb to Ahlonte Hair in the second quarter to put Chadron State ahead 30-6 before halftime. He also aided teammate Cole Thurness in becoming the Eagles’ all-time leader in receptions while tying the program record in receiving touchdowns with a four-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter.
 
Defensive Player of the Week: Joey Geil, Chadron State – So. – LB – Casper, Wyo.
After jumping into the starting lineup in week seven, Geil has made an impact for the Chadron State defense by leading the Eagles in tackles in each of his last five games. In his latest performance against Black Hills State, he registered 10 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. He also recovered a fumble for the Eagles at the beginning of the fourth quarter, which led to Chadron State’s final touchdown drive of the game.
 
Special Teams Player of the Week: Gunnar Jones, Chadron State – Jr. – K/P – Florence, Ala.
Jones accounted for 15 of the Eagles’ 57 points on the road Saturday against the Yellow Jackets, connecting on all six PATs and each of his three field-goal attempts. He also punted twice for a 52-yard average to go along with a 55.7 average in his 11 kickoffs. The junior closes the season with a perfect 42-for-42 mark on PATs.
