COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Black Hills State’s Joel Scott and South Dakota Mines’ Kolten Mortensen are the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.

For the second-straight week and the third time this season, Scott claims Offensive Player of the Week honors after helping the Yellow Jackets (6-3, 4-0 RMAC) extend their unbeaten start in conference play. The junior was extremely efficient from the field, once again, closing out the week with a 48-percent field-goal average while pulling down 12 rebounds per game. In Friday’s 75-73 overtime victory at Colorado Mesa, Scott shot 10-for-17 from the field for 27 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds. He turned around the following day and posted 10 points and 10 boards, marking his seventh double-double of the season in a 69-61 road win over Westminster.

Mortensen earns Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season after pushing the Hardrockers (3-6, 1-2 RMAC) to a 70-58 win at home against Adams State last week. In South Dakota Mines’ 12-point victory over the Grizzlies, Mortensen threw down a double-double of his own, closing out the game with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Of his 12 boards, nine came off of the defensive glass as the Hardrockers limited ASU to 34.4-percent shooting and a 28.6-percent mark from three-point range.

Offensive Player of the Week: Joel Scott, Black Hills State – Jr. – F – Monument, Colo.
Scott continued his strong start to the 2021-22 season last week, racking up two more double-double performances for the Yellow Jackets. The junior averaged 18.5 points and 12 rebounds on the week, shooting 48-percent from the field and 75-percent from the free-throw line. In addition to his scoring efforts, Scott also added in four assists, four steals and one block to push Black Hills State to a 4-0 start in RMAC play.

Defensive Player of the Week: Kolten Mortensen, South Dakota Mines – Jr. – F – Santaquin, Utah
Mortensen stamped three blocks in the Hardrockers’ lone game last week against Adams State. In his double-double outing, the junior led a South Dakota Mines defense that flustered the Grizzlies and held ASU to its lowest-scoring performance of the season. Of his 12 rebounds, Mortensen pulled nine on the defensive end of the floor, which helped the Hardrockers build steam on offense, where he finished the game shooting 44-percent from the field.
