COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.— The 2020-21 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) indoor track and field major award winners and all-conference selections have been announced.

The major awards were voted on by the conference’s head coaches. First Team All-RMAC consists of the top three individual finishers from each event at the RMAC Indoor Track and Field and the first-place relay teams. Second Team All-RMAC consists of the fourth, fifth and sixth place individual finishers, along with the second-place relay teams.

UC-Colorado Springs’ Layla Almarsi returned from her All-American year in 2019-20 to win the RMAC title in the mile and perform well at nationals shortly after. Almarsi earned All-American honors for the second year in a row thanks to a successful outing on the Mountain Lions’ DMR team who placed eighth in the event at nationals.

Fellow Mountain Lion, Hannah Meek is the Field Athlete of the Year following a third-place finish at nationals to help her earn her fourth All-American honor between indoor and outdoor seasons. Meek jumped a 6.09m in the long jump which is a career-best.

Colorado Mesa’s Josie Coffey is the RMAC Freshman of the Year after making an impact for the Mavericks in her first year competing. The Lakewood native ended up placing ninth at nationals in the high jump shortly after winning the event at the RMAC Championships.

On the men’s side, Charlie Sweeney from Western Colorado has been named the RMAC Track Athlete of the Year after crossing the finish line fifth in the 5,000 at nationals with a time of 13:54.64 and sixth in the 3,000 with a time of 8:04.57 to nab two All-American honors.

UCCS’ Peter Ackah nabbed the men’s Field Athlete of the Year after dishing out All-American honors by getting seventh at nationals and winning the RMAC Championship in the long jump. He also was first in the triple jump at the conference championships.

Chadron State’s Morgan Fawver is the RMAC Freshman of the Year following a successful first collegiate season where he earned All-Region honors and dished out top-three finishes at the RMAC Championships in the 60m and 200m. Both earned him All-RMAC First Team honors.

For the second year in a row, UCCS’ head coach, Ross Fellows, is the RMAC Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year following two first place victories at the RMAC Championships for both Mountain Lion programs. For the men, it was their second conference title while the women nabbed their third.
