UPDATE: CMU's Walters and CCU's Slayton named 2020-21 RMAC Golf Summit Award Winners
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa University’s Elly Walters and Colorado Christian University's Zach Slayton were named the 2020-21 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Golf Summit Award winners on Friday.
The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average (GPA) participating at the final sites for each of the RMAC championships.
All GPAs are based on a straight grading scale to ensure consistency among institutions. Any tie is broken by the number of credits completed.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above, who participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and competing at the championship. Graduate students are not eligible.
Walters is a redshirt sophomore with a 4.000 GPA, majoring in Business. She currently leads Colorado Mesa with a stroke average of 77.29 and a low-round of 73 at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic just two weeks ago. The Rifle, Colo. native finished in a tie for fifth place at the El Cheapo Classic in Pueblo and is one of three Mavericks to compete in all 14 rounds scheduled this season. A former women’s basketball player at Colorado Mesa, she helped lead the Mavericks to the RMAC Championship during the 2019-20 season.
Slayton, the Austin, Texas native, has maintained a 3.961 GPA while majoring in Business Administration. The sophomore is consistently the team's top golfer, averaging a score of 72.82 per 18 holes. He was named RMAC Golfer of the Week during Week 5 (Oct. 14) and was the runner-up at the Mile High Shootout in September.
Walters and Slayton will be recognized at the conclusion of the 2021 RMAC Golf Championships on April 18-20 at the Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield Park, Arizona. For more information on the tournament visit
