COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) volleyball teams concluded the regular season this last week as the top two seeds for the RMAC Tournament were solidified as well as the rest of the field. 

Team Highlights

  • The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks solidified the RMAC Regular Season Championship with a 3-0 sweep victory over Colorado School of Mines. This is the first regular season title since 2014, and is the 11th program-history. CMU will host the RMAC Tournament that starts on Thursday and entered the most recent national rankings as the No. 2 team in the country. The undefeated regular reason and the national poll placement marks the best regular season in program history. 
  • MSU Denver ended the regular season by sweeping UCCS 3-0 on Wednesday in the last RMAC regular season matchup before the conference tournament. The Roadrunners played a competitive three sets against the Mountain Lions and dished out a .322 hitting percentage while holding UCCS to a .141 clip. MSU Denver recently moved up to No. 3 in the national polls right behind Colorado Mesa. They will be seeded No. 2 in the RMAC Tournament. 


Players of the Week

  • Colorado Mesa’s Savannah Spitzer is the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week after she dished out 13 kills and hit .571 with just one error as she led the Mavericks to a three-set RMAC-title clinching sweep at Colorado School of Mines last Monday. She also had three blocks to lead the Mavericks.
  • Colorado Mesa’s Kerstin Layman is the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week after she tallied 19 digs against CSM. The Mavs also held the Orediggers to just .204 team hitting and to two service aces.
  • Colorado Mesa’s Sabrina VanDeList is the RMAC Setter of the Week following her 23 assists, eight digs and three service aces as she helped the Mavericks hit .305 as a team against the Orediggers. 


Individual Highlights

  • MSU Denver's Avaline Lai had a match-high 11 kills on .476 hitting in a win over UCCS to wrap up the second seed for the RMAC Tournament. Lai also had three blocks (one solo) and two digs. For the season, Lai is 5th in the RMAC with a .343 hitting percentage.
  • MSU Denver's Ember Canty had 3 blocks (1 solo) while adding five kills in six attacks (.625 hitting percentage) and a dig against UCCS. For the season Canty is second in the RMAC in blocks per set (1.09) and would be first in hitting percentage at .457 but she is eight attacks short of qualifying.
  • MSU Denver's Joli Sadler had 14 assists in two sets (7.0 per set) and helped direct the No. 3 Roadrunners to their fourth-most efficient night of the season with .322 hitting in a 3-0 win over UCCS. Sadler added 1 service ace and 3 digs. In both overall and league play, Sadler is 10th in the RMAC with 6.0 and 5.9 assists per set, respectively.
