COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs’ (UCCS) Holly Sodomka and Adams State University’s Kyler Welch were named the 2021 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Women’s and Men’s Lacrosse Summit Award winners on Thursday.

The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average (GPA) participating at the final sites for each of the RMAC championships.

All GPAs are based on a straight grading scale to ensure consistency among institutions. Any tie is broken by the number of credits completed.

To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above, who participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and competing at the championship. Graduate students are not eligible.

A Business major with 4.00 GPA, redshirt-sophomore Sodomka is in her third year with Mountain Lions.  A midfielder from Apple Valley, Minn., Sodomka has started 11 games this season.  She has recorded five goals and five assists with 14 of her 16 shots landing on goal.  Sodomka, who was named to the 2020 RMAC All-Academic First Team, ranks seventh in the conference in draw controls per game (36 draws, 3.27/game), and has added 16 ground balls.  Sodomka recorded a career high three points in an 18-15 home win over Fort Lewis College on April 16 after scoring a goal and assisting on two more.

Welch is a junior with 3.977 GPA majoring in Biochemistry. As the backup goalie for the Grizzlies, Welch made three saves for the team this season. The Richland, Washington native is also a two-time First Team RMAC All-Academic selection.
