Randy Campbell Named RMAC Coordinator of Football Officials
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) has announced the hiring of Randy Campbell as the league’s Coordinator of Football Officials for the 2021-22 academic year, RMAC Commissioner Chris Graham announced Tuesday. Campbell steps into the role with over 30 years of football officiating experience at the NCAA Division I and II levels.
"Randy has been a long-time supporter of the RMAC and our officials,” said Commissioner Chris Graham. “As our Women's Basketball Coordinator of Officials, he has elevated rules education, mechanics and communication, leading our officials to greater avocational and professional success. We fully expect the same results within our football program in the coming years."
Prior to joining the RMAC for the 2021 season, Campbell served as an official for six NCAA Division I conferences, including the Pac-12 Conference, Big 12 Conference, Western Athletic Conference, Southland Conference, Mountain West Conference and the Big Sky Conference. Campbell is also no stranger to the RMAC, as he began his collegiate officiating career in the league from 1989-1995.
With over 30 years of officiating experience to his name, Campbell has notched a bevy of postseason appearances, including 21 postseason assignments, including 18 FBS bowl assignments, five Pac-12 Conference Championship games, one Big 12 Conference title game, the 2016 CFP semifinal contest between Ohio State and Clemson and the 2013 BCS National Championship matchup, featuring Notre Dame and Alabama. Additionally, he is the only college football official to have worked a national championship, semifinal and conference championship game in two Power Five leagues (Big 12 and Pac-12). Campbell also currently serves as a replay official and video operator for the National Football League, a role he began in 2017.
“I am excited to be the new coordinator of football officials for the RMAC and I look forward to working with the administrators, coaches, players and officials during the upcoming 2021 college football season,” Campbell said. “On and off the field, the RMAC has a long and rich tradition of excellence in college football and I look forward to working with the league and officiating staff in enhancing that tradition of excellence.”
Campbell’s professional merits also extend beyond the football field. In addition to his football duties, he also serves as the RMAC Women’s Basketball Coordinator of Officials, a position he has held since 2014. Further, he has served as the coordinator of officials for the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Regional Championship and was also tasked with overseeing officials at the 2017 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Elite Eight.
