CMU, Mines Billed 2021 RMAC Men’s Soccer Preseason Favorites

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa and Colorado School of Mines are the 2021 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) men’s soccer preseason favorites, the league announced Wednesday. The RMAC preseason men’s soccer poll is voted upon by the league’s 11 head coaches.
 
Colorado Mesa and Colorado School of Mines tied for the top position in preseason voting, each garnering five first-place votes and 95 points. The Mavericks enter the 2021 season ranked No. 21 in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) preseason poll. CMU secured a 5-0-1 conference record last season, claiming a share of the RMAC regular-season title along the way.
 
Colorado School of Mines also completed last season with a 5-0-1 conference record for a share of the RMAC regular-season title, before locking up its fourth-consecutive RMAC Tournament championship. With 22 student-athletes returning from last season, Colorado School of Mines enters the 2021 campaign ranked No. 8 in the USC Preseason Top-25 poll.
 
Colorado State University Pueblo occupies the third-place spot with 72 points. The ThunderWolves concluded the 2020-21 season ranked 13th in the NCAA for shots per game (16.44) and 15th nationally in scoring offense (2.56). In fourth place is Fort Lewis with one first-place vote and 70 points. The Skyhawks outscored opponents by a .33 margin last season and look to build upon that offense in the upcoming campaign.
 
Regis checks in at fifth place with 66 points, followed by Westminster with 62 points and Metropolitan State University Denver in seventh place with 44 points. University of Colorado Colorado Springs holds the eight-place position with 41 points, while Colorado Christian stands ninth overall with 30 points.
 
Rounding out the preseason poll is South Dakota Mines in 10th place with 17 points and Adams State in 11th place with 13 points.
