COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) has announced the hiring of Glenda Bates as the league’s Coordinator of Softball Officials for the 2021-22 academic year, Commissioner Chris Graham announced Monday.

“We are delighted to welcome Glenda as our new leader for RMAC softball officials,” Commissioner Graham stated. “She has built a reputation of success and respect within the RMAC softball community during her career as an official. Her plan to emphasize education, development and communication will add great value to our softball programs.”

Bates began her collegiate softball career in 1995 as an umpire at both the NCAA Division I and II levels. Since then, she continues to serve as an NCAA and conference umpire camp clinician and evaluator. Over the past 25 years, she has appeared as an umpire in NCAA conference, regional and super regional tournament settings.

“I am excited to be the new Coordinator of Softball Officials for the RMAC,” Bates said. “I wish to thank Chris Graham and the entire RMAC staff for this opportunity and their dedication to the successes of the conference. I am eager to make some positive changes to our umpiring plans and I am looking forward to supporting the umpires, coaches and student-athletes in the continued development of a high-quality officiating program.”

In addition to her experience at the collegiate level, Bates has also served as an umpire for the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA), where she also works as an assignor and evaluator, an area director and a rules interpreter for the NFHS. From 2009-2015, she was named the President of the Colorado High School Softball Association.

Bates also holds experience at the national level as a USA Softball umpire, a role that she began in 1989 and continues to hold. From 2008-2018, she worked with USA Softball to assist in training, evaluating, scheduling and coordinating umpires for the organization. Further, Bates has also claimed experience on the international stage as an umpire for the International Softball Federation (ISF) and the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).
