Mines’ Powell, WCU’s Doucette Named RMAC Cross Country Runners of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines’ Dillon Powell and Western Colorado’s Katie Doucette are the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Runners of the Week, respectively, the league announced Wednesday.
 
Powell claimed a first-place finish for the Orediggers at the Wyoming Invite at Little America Golf Course in Cheyenne, Wyo., last week. The sophomore outran a field of 58 men’s competitors on the way to his individual victory.
 
Doucette also competed at the Wyoming Invite over the weekend, finishing first among NCAA Division II competitors and 12th overall. The junior from Golden, Colo., covered the 5k course in 17:42.5 and earned 10 points for the Mountaineers in team standings.
 
Men’s XC Runner of the Week: Dillon Powell, Colorado School of Mines – So. – Colorado Springs, Colo.
Powell beat every single runner at the Wyoming Invite last week, running solo for Colorado School of Mines. He completed the 5k course 14:54.6, besting runners from Colorado State, Wyoming, Northern Colorado and Western Colorado. He competed as the lone runner from Colorado School of Mines and beat the second-place finisher by a six-second margin.
 
Women’s XC Runner of the Week: Katie Doucette, Western Colorado – Jr. – Golden, Colo.
Doucette averaged 5:42 per mile at the Wyoming Invite over the weekend in a field of 80 competitors. Her 12th-place individual finish led WCU’s pack of five runners and pushed the squad to a sixth-place team finish for the meet. As a squad, Western Colorado registered an average time of 19:24 for the event.
