Allie Navarette, JaNaiya Davis Claim Week Eight RMAC Women’s Basketball Distinctions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Allie Navarette and Colorado State University Pueblo’s JaNaiya Davis are the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
 
Claiming her first RMAC Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season, Navarette’s latest honor comes on the heels of a dominant performance in the Roadrunners’ (7-4, 3-3 RMAC) 75-69 victory over Fort Lewis last week. The senior claimed her fourth double-double performance of the season with 22 points and 14 rebounds in just 27 minutes of action against the Skyhawks. She closed the game shooting 12-for-17 from the free-throw line and shot 63-percent from the field for the contest.  
 
Davis earns her first RMAC weekly defensive honor of the season after leading the ThunderWolves (10-3, 6-1 RMAC) to a pair of victories over Adams State and South Dakota Mines last week. The CSU Pueblo guard finished the week averaging 10.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game. In a dominant 86-26 victory over the Grizzlies, Davis pulled down eight of her nine rebounds on the defensive end to go along with four steals. In Saturday’s 63-60 win over the Hardrockers, she claimed 12 rebounds and four steals to go along with 12 points and four assists for the ThunderWolves.
 
MSU Denver returns to action Friday, Jan. 14, for a 5:30 p.m. MT tipoff on the road against Colorado Mesa. CSU Pueblo is also in action Friday, Jan. 14, in a 5 p.m. road contest against New Mexico Highlands.
 
Offensive Player of the Week: Allie Navarette, MSU Denver – Sr. – F – Torrance, Calif.
In MSU Denver’s lone game last week, Navarette registered an impressive performance for the Roadrunners with 22 points, a season-high 14 rebounds, two blocks, one assist and one steal. The senior converted five of her eight field-goal attempts while knocking down 12 of her 17 free throws in the contest. For her collegiate career, Navarette now has 933 rebounds and is just shy of the 2,000-point club with 1,931 points.
 
Defensive Player of the Week: JaNaiya Davis, CSU Pueblo – Sr. – G – Hewitt, Texas
Davis put up a prolific defensive effort for CSU Pueblo last week, totaling eight steals in the ThunderWolves two wins. She accounted for an efficient nine points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals against ASU on Tuesday and followed up with her first double-double performance of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds in Saturday’s contest against South Dakota Mines.
