Mosley, Jr., Nwagwu Named Men’s Indoor Athletes of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs’ Brian Mosley, Jr., and Chadron State’s Derrick Nwagwu are the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, the league announced Wednesday.
 
Mosley, Jr., was in mid-season form for the Mountain Lions last week at the Potts Indoor Invitational in Boulder, Colo., The sophomore racked up a pair of impressive finishes in the 60-meter and 200-meter events. He opened his stint at the meet with a third-place finish in the 60m dash, crossing the finish line with an altitude-converted time of 6.84 seconds, which ranks tied for 15th in the nation for the 2021-22 NCAA Division II indoor season. He then captured fifth place in the 200m race with a raw time of 21.82 seconds, which stands third among RMAC sprinters this season and second in UCCS program history.
 
The Mountain Lions are back in action at home this weekend as they host the Colorado Running Company UCCS Invite inside Mountain Lion Fieldhouse. The two-day event gets underway Saturday, Jan. 22, at 11:30 a.m. MT. Those looking to attend the event will be required to wear a mask for the duration of their attendance.
 
Nwagwu claims his first Field Athlete of the Week award of the season after stamping a first-place finish in the triple jump event for the Eagles last week at the Myrle Hanson Open in Spearfish, S.D. The sophomore jumper cleared the pit for a provisional mark of 14.54m (47-08.5 ft) in his first appearance of the indoor season.
 
Chadron State returns to competition Friday, Jan. 21, at the South Dakota State Division II Invite. The meet will be a one-day event inside Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D.

Mosley, Jr., found the podium for one of his two sprint performances at the Division I Potts Indoor Invitational, hosted by Colorado University, last week. He took third-place honors in the 60m dash, crossing the finish line with an adjusted time of 6.84 seconds to best his provisional time in the event. He then found a spot in the UCCS record book with a 21.82 finish in the 200m race, taking fifth place in the event and earning the second-fastest mark in Mountain Lions’ program history.
 
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: Derrick Nwagwu, Chadron State – So. – Aurora, Colo.
Nwagwu cracked NCAA Division II’s top-20 triple jump performers with his first-place finish at the Myrle Hanson Open last week. In a field of four competitors, the Eagles’ jumper bested the second-place finisher by 0.51m (1.5 ft) in his season-opener. Nwagwu’s mark stands as a provisional leap and he captured it on his fourth attempt of the event.
