CMU’s Martin, Siemons Claim RMAC Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa’s Mariah Martin and Kelsey Siemons are the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
 
The Mavericks’ duo pushed their squad to wins in two of their three games last week to claim both weekly awards for Colorado Mesa. Martin and Siemons’ awards mark the second time this season that a pair of Mavs have won the awards in the same week.
 
Martin earns Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 24.7 points and 6.0 assists last week. She began by playing every minute in the Mavs’ narrow loss at Black Hills State on Monday. Four days later, Martin sounded off at home with 22 points, seven assists and four rebounds in a decisive 66-41 victory against Fort Lewis. The following day, the Mavs hosted Western Colorado for “Blizzard in Brownson” and toppled the Mountaineers 63-39, where Martin logged 26 points and seven dimes.
 
Siemons was just shy of averaging a double-double last week and closed the Mavs’ three-game stretch with 9.7 points and 12.7 rebounds per game. She recorded a 42-percent field goal average last week and was perfect from the free-throw line. Siemons registered double-digit rebounds in each of Colorado Mesa’s three contests. Her best performance came in the form of 17 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals against Fort Lewis.
 
Colorado Mesa returns to the hardwood Tuesday, Feb. 1, for a road game against Westminster. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. MT, inside Westminster’s Behnken Field House.

Offensive Player of the Week: Mariah Martin, Colorado Mesa – Gr. – G – Sandy, Utah
Martin averaged 24.7 points and 6.0 assists for the Mavericks last week. She scored 26 points on the road against Black Hills State and 26 more at home against Western Colorado. The Sandy, Utah, native shot above 45-percent from the field and 47-percent from downtown on the week. Currently, Martin is averaging 19.2 points and 5.5 assists per game for the Mavericks.
 
Defensive Player of the Week: Kelsey Siemons, Colorado Mesa – Gr. – C – Tucson, Ariz.
Siemons nearly averaged a double-double in Colorado Mesa's three games last week. She averaged 12.7 rebounds and 9.7 points while tacking on 2.3 blocks during the week. She tabbed 13 rebounds and three blocks on the road against the Yellow Jackets before following up with 17 points and 11 rebounds in CMU’s win over the Skyhawks. On Saturday, Siemons closed out the week with 14 rebounds and 4 blocks in a home win against Western Colorado.
