Awet Beraki and Brianna Robles Named RMAC Cross Country Runners of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Adams State’s Awet Beraki and Brianna Robles are the latest RMAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Runners of the Week, respectively, the league announced Wednesday.
 
Beraki placed first overall in the men’s 8K last weekend at the Highlander Invitational in Riverside, Calif., where he earned a personal record of 23:23.6. The senior beat out Division I and Division II opponents in a race that contained 281 runners. Earlier this week, the Colorado Springs, Colo., native was named the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Athlete of the Week for his performance.
 
Robles finished third overall in a tight women’s 6K race also at the Highlander Invitational. She was the first Division II athlete to finish the race, crossing the finish line with a time of 19:54.5. Robles finished just eight seconds behind the first-place runner and lifted her team to a first-place team finish bya 40-point margin.
 
Men’s XC Runner of the Week: Awet Beraki, Adams State – Sr. – Colorado Springs, Colo.
Beraki earns RMAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honors after capturing his second individual title of the season at the Highlander Invitational last weekend. With a time of 23:23.6, the senior was the only Division II runner to finish among the top three, outrunning the second-place finisher by 21.4 seconds. He also led a pack of five Adams State runners to top-10 finishes, boosting the Grizzlies to their third first-place team finish of the season.

Women’s XC Runner of the Week: Brianna Robles, Adams State – Sr. – Palmview, Texas
Robles claims RMAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the week after conquering the Highlander Invitational with a personal-best performance of 19:54.5 for a third-place finish. She was the first of three Grizzlies within the top 10, propelling the Grizzlies to their third consecutive team win of the season.
