Dejan Urbanek, Isaiah Cheeks Named RMAC Swimmer and Diver of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa’s Dejan Urbanek and Isaiah Cheeks are the latest Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, the league announced Wednesday.
 
Urbanek claims Swimmer of the Week honors for the first time this season after claiming first place in a pair of individual races while helping the Mavericks to a relay win over the weekend in their dual against NCAA Division I foe, Wyoming. The sophomore topped the podium in the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly races with times of 49.51 (altitude-adjusted) and 1:49.87 (altitude-adjusted), respectively. He then competed as the third leg, the butterfly, on the Mavs’ 400-yard medley relay team, which took first place with an altitude-adjusted time of 3:20.08.
 
Cheeks earns his third Diver of the Week honor of the season after sweeping the diving events against Wyoming over the weekend. The Aurora, Colo., native took first in the 3-meter event with 331.30 points, besting the field by a 34-point margin. Prior to his 3-meter performance, Cheeks took first in the 1-meter competition with a six-dive score of 267.85 points and an 11-dive score of 458.45 points.
 
Colorado Mesa will enjoy a break before returning to action at the TYR CMU Invitational, a four-day event hosted by the Mavericks beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 16. All four days of competition will be held inside El Pomar Natatorium on the Colorado Mesa campus in Grand Junction, Colo.
 
Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Dejan Urbanek, Colorado Mesa – So. – Novi Sad, Serbia
Urbanek won two individual races and contributed to a relay win for the Mavs in Saturday’s dual against Division I Wyoming, sweeping the butterfly events along the way. He won the 200-yard butterfly with a NCAA “B” Cut time of 1:49.87 before returning to take the 100-yard butterfly in 49.51 (adjusted). He currently ranks fourth and eighth in Division II, according to Swimcloud, with those marks, respectively. He also swam the butterfly third leg on CMU’s winning 400-yard medley relay team that won in 3:20.08 (adjusted) just minutes before posting a strong second-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle event with an adjusted time of 9:34.15.
 
Men’s Diver of the Week: Isaiah Cheeks, Colorado Mesa – R-Jr. – Aurora, Colo.
Cheeks swept the diving events and posted a pair of NCAA Championship qualifying scores in Saturday’s dual against Division I Wyoming. He won the 3-meter competition by 34 points, posting an impressive NCAA-qualifying score of 331.30 points, surpassing the Division II qualifying standard of 295 points by 36.3 points. Earlier in the afternoon, he had won the 1-meter competition with a 6-dive score of 267.85 points before going on to post an 11-dive score of 458.45 points, easily surpassing the national qualifying standard of 440.
