Rayhan Carlson-Du Toit Named RMAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Year
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Regis’ Rayhan Carlson-Du Toit is the 2022 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Men’s Soccer Player of the Year, the league announced Thursday. In addition to the men’s soccer individual award winners, the 2022 RMAC Men’s Soccer All-Conference teams were also revealed. Individual awards and all-conference teams are voted on by the league’s 11 head coaches. Coaches are not permitted to vote for their players.
Carlson-Du Toit earns RMAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Year after a strong sophomore season for Regis in which he led the league with 13 goals and 30 points in 17 appearances. The Auckland, New Zealand, native currently ranks 20th nationally averaging .72 goals per game, ninth in the nation in total goals and 10th in NCAA DII for total points. Of his 13 goals on the year, four served as game-winners, helping the Rangers secure a spot in the upcoming RMAC Tournament.
Regis’ Matteo Colombo and University of Colorado Colorado Springs’ Matteo Moreno Madrid are the RMAC Co-Freshman of the Year following their collegiate regular-season debuts. Colombo anchored a Regis defense that limits opponents to 1.67 goals per game, allowing the offense to pick up steam and attack with confidence. In the Rangers final four games of the season, which were weighted with postseason implications, Colombo and the Regis defense allowed just four goals, lifting them to the No. 5 seed in the RMAC Tournament.
Madrid was at the forefront of the Mountain Lions’ defense, which allowed an average of .61 goals per game on the year, a mark that ranks seventh in the nation. The UCCS defense also limited opponents to a .070 shot percentage over 18 games throughout the 2022 campaign. In addition to his defensive efforts for a stingy Mountain Lions program, the freshman also registered an assist.
Shjon Andrews earns RMAC Defensive Player of the Year after pushing Colorado State University Pueblo to a 14-3-1 overall record and 8-1-1 in conference play. Andrews led ThunderWolves’ backline, which has allowed just 11 goals all season, to a program-best No. 3 national ranking earlier this season. Currently ranked No. 10 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll, CSU Pueblo has limited opponents to a .109 shooting percentage. The senior has also found his way into the Pack attack and has found the net on three occasions while dishing out a pair of assists.
Colorado Christian’s Max Collingwood claims RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year honor after registering four shutouts for the Cougars throughout the 2022 campaign. Collingwood holds a .744 save percentage over 12 matches for the Cougars. So far, the senior has recorded 50 saves and holds a 1.44 goals-against average, which was instrumental in leading his team to its first RMAC Tournament appearance in program history.
Colorado School of Mines head coach Greg Mulholland is the RMAC Coach of the Year after steering the Orediggers to their sixth consecutive regular-season championship. Mines is currently ranked No. 15 in the nation after closing out the regular season with a 9-1-0 conference record, earning the No. 1 seed at the upcoming RMAC Men’s Soccer Tournament. Mulholland has put together a balanced squad that ranks 11th in the country for total goals (40) and 18th nationally for total points (107). The Orediggers’ parsimonious defense holds opponents to .94 goals per game.
CSU Pueblo and UCCS lead the way with five all-conference selections apiece. Four of the ThunderWolves’ all-conference honorees earn first-team distinctions, which serves as a conference-leading mark. Colorado School of Mines and Regis each account for four honorees. Colorado Christian, Colorado Mesa and Westminster each rang up two all-conference selections apiece, while Fort Lewis and Metropolitan State University of Denver each claim one honoree.
